I hung a rope in a tree today,
Praying for the pain to go away
All I could hear was my familiar voice,
Taunting me to make a choice
Then a calm, quiet one came into my head.
“What are you doing?” Was all it said
“Making a swing.” I hid my tears.
A child smiled and I saw no fear
Then he said, “I want to swing.”
I thought about the joy that it’d bring
We played and laughed, we laughed and played,
And I thanked God for this beautiful day
When all I could see was the end of my rope,
A child showed me it could be hope
I stayed to pray and I prayed to stay,
I made a swing in a tree today
